Joomla is a powerful CMS system that has grown in popularity since it was rebranded from Mambo in 2006. There are two major features that have made it so popular: a good administrative system and a decent templating system.

Basically, a Joomla site consists of 3 elements that all work together to produce a web page: content, modules and templates, and is a low cost content management system that has the power and sophistication to drive very complex web sites.

Joomla is a standard application that is typically available on your hosting account. If it isn't available for installation, you can download Joomla to your PC and upload the installation files to your hosting account using FTP, and install Joomla using a web browser.

If your hosting account doesn't allow you to log into your website through FTP, it might be time to look into a great hosting service that provides an FTP service, or, at the very least, provides Joomla as an application that can be easily installed from your web site manager.
