Domain Name Tips

Here are a few tips about domain names and domain registration.

  • If you purchase a new domain name and want to use it for an existing site, preserve your existing folder and file names and add a 301-redirect from the old domain to the new domain name. Your existing site will continue to work as it did and you won't lose any existing traffic to your pages. If you need or want to change folder or file names, make sure to create separate 301 redirects for each changed folder and page.
  • When you register a domain, your name, email address, phone number and other personal information is listed in a public databse that's available to anyone, 24/7! Private registration protects you by sheilding personal information from prying eyes, while still letting you retain the full benefits of domain ownership. For a small fee, your Domains will be listed by proxy name in the Whois directory. The small fee charged for private registration is worth shielding your identity from employers, spammers, and mud slinging co-workers.
