How To Build A WebSite

To develop the skills required for constructing a website, here are some FREE tutorials. These tutorials will give you some basic information and provide simple to complex projects for you to build.

I will provide free hosting for your site as long as you are actively working on it. If you would like to participate, please register your name and email address so I can setup an account for you. With your free account, you will be able to work through the tutorials, upload your projects, and view completed work through your browser.

Note: You do not need to register unless you want to use a free hosting account. If you already have a hosting account, feel free to use it. The tutorials listed below do not require registration. Also, registering your name and email address is only for providing access to your FREE hosting account. Under no conditions will you receive notices or messages other than what will be directly related to your hosting account.

Tutorial #1	What is FTP? - This tutorial will introduce you to downloading, installing, and configuring an FTP application. Mastering FTP is essential for copying your files you create on your local PC (local site) to your hosting account (remote site).
Tutorial #2	Learn Text Editing - Before you can compose a page to display in a browser, you will have to learn a little HTML code, and to create the HTML code you'll need to get some practice with a text editor. Use this tutorial to download and get some practice with one of my favorite text editors.
Tutorial #3	Learn Some Basic HTML - HTML is the code that a browser understands. In order to get a browser to read and display formatted text, you must master some basic HTML code. Later on we'll investigate XHTML and convert our basic HTML pages to compliant XHTML.
Tutorial #4	Learn about Ordered Lists - This tutorial will teach you how to add the use of ordered lists to your basic HTML tag set.
Tutorial #5	Learn about Unordered Lists - This tutorial will teach you how to add the use of unordered lists to your basic HTML tag set.
Tutorial #6	Basics of Linking - Navigation systems that you build for your website allow site visitors to jump around from page to page on your website. This tutorial will introduce the concept of hypertext linking.
Tutorial #7	How To Register Domain Names - This tutorial will teach you about domain registration and how to research, find, and register your domain name.

The Basic Web Page Construction demo will walk you through constructing a basic HTML web page, uploading the page to the web server, and viewing your page in a browser using nothing but simple and FREE tools.
