Uploading Pages

You must upload your pages to the webserver to make them public. If you are using a package such as Macromedia Dreamweaver, FTP is included with your editor. There are also many FTP applications available that can also be used to upload your pages to your webserver. For a recommend list, see the FTP Applications section of the Webmaster Resources page.

To setup your Macromedia Dreamweaver editor to FTP your pages to the webserver, access your Manage Site Dialog box and locate the Remote Info tab.

  • Select FTP as the access type.
  • Enter the name of your host (your domain name without the http://)
  • Enter your host directory (typically will be: /var/www/html)
  • Enter your username and password, and select passive mode

The FTP setup information described above will be used to FTP your pages into your website space.

I personally use Macromedia Dreamweaver to upload my own pages, but sometimes I use FileZilla if I'm uploading a bunch of pages. One of the things I like about FileZilla is its windows interface — and the fact that it is FREE.

If you need assistance with FTP, please use the contact form or call 831-212-1884.
